The Sort It waste disposal and recycling centre in Station Road, Little Stoke, is to see its gates remain closed for two weeks from Monday (15th April 2024) to allow essential repairs to be carried out.

South Gloucestershire Council (SGC) says the temporary closure is needed in order to “replace the floor of the site.”

A spokesperson for the council, which outsources operation of the site to SUEZ, said:

“The work is weather dependent so this timescale could change, but if all goes to plan, the site will reopen on Saturday 27th April 2024.”

Whilst the local facility is closed, residents are advised to use any of the council’s three other Sort It recycling centres in Mangotsfield (7.0 miles away; map) Thornbury (7.4 miles; map) and Yate (7.4 miles; map), which are all open from 8.30am to 4.30pm daily.

Residents are reminded that they may be asked to open any bags of mixed waste that they bring to any of the Sort It sites.

A statement on the council’s website reads:

“If you bring bags of mixed waste to a recycling centre you must check them for recycling first which you must remove before throwing away the remaining waste. You can do this using the sorting table on site or take your bags home to sort.”

“We have reintroduced bag sorting at our sites so that you can recycle more of your waste and to stop hazardous items like batteries, vapes and electrical items causing fires in the waste.”
