At the end of last summer, Marc Cain celebrated its 50th anniversary at its Bodelshausen headquarters with an opulent fashion show. The fashion company gave new life to the tent used for the show, featuring the brand’s signature leopard print, as part of an upcycling collaboration with eco-outdoor specialist Vaude.

According to Marc Cain, the idea behind recycling the leopard print tent fabric was to design and market a limited edition accessory, while preserving the resources used during the fashion show and limiting CO2 emissions.

The result was a shopper bag and toiletry bag made in Germany. Processing and production took place at Vaude’s Obereisenbach site on Lake Constance.

According to Marc Cain and Vaude, two big names in the Baden-Württemberg textile industry, the proximity of the sites meant that few emissions were generated by the transport of materials and products and they were offset by donations to the NGO MyClimate.

Each bag model is unique and is marketed accordingly as a “souvenir of 50 years of Marc Cain”. The bags are now available on the Marc Cain website.

Vaude made a name for itself at the beginning of December when it won two prizes at the German Sustainability Award ceremony for the country’s most virtuous companies. Judged by a jury of professionals, the outdoor equipment manufacturer won in the textile category, but also in the “value chain” category. Vaude had already been named “Germany’s most sustainable brand” in 2015.
