Residents have been taking advantage of a new Christmas tree recycling scheme in Newquay.
Dozens of festive trees have been dropped off at South Fistral car park after Newquay Town Council launched the initiative to bring in a sustainable New Year.
The authority’s environment service team will transform the Christmas trees into valuable mulch, which will be used to enhance the public flowerbeds across the town.
A council spokesperson said: “The new initiative not only promotes environmental sustainability but also contributes to the beautification of our beloved town.
“This innovative programme serves as a sustainable solution to both the financial and environmental challenges associated with Christmas tree disposal.
“By chipping and repurposing the trees as mulch, Newquay Town Council not only saves valuable resources but also prevents these trees from ending up in landfills.
“The chipped Christmas trees will be used as mulch in public flowerbeds throughout Newquay, providing a natural and beneficial addition to the soil.
“This environmentally conscious initiative aligns with the council’s commitment to creating a greener and more sustainable future for the community.”
Newquay Town Council is offering the free Christmas tree chipping service at South Fistral car park until January 31.
