Emmanuel Katrakis, currently secretary general of EuRIC will be joining the Belgian/French recycling firm Galloo in May.
The news comes four weeks after Katrakis announced he was stepping down from the European recycling industry’s umbrella organisation he has served for ten years. He leaves at the end of March.
‘The combination of his regulatory knowledge should enable us to remain at the forefront of the political and legislative issues that impact our ongoing development,’ Galloo comments.
Crucial role
The company’s market development and environmental affairs officer Olivier François, who is also EuRIC president, says the recycling industry at large will benefit from retaining Katrakis within the sector. ‘This talent is crucial as we navigate the regulatory challenges ahead.’
According to Galloo’s ceo Rik Debaere, Katrakis’ experience and knowledge align with ‘our proactive and innovative vision for both Galloo and the industry’.
Handling one million tonnes of scrap
With a turnover of EUR 700 million, Galloo is among the biggest ferrous and non-ferrous recyclers in Europe. Thanks to an extensive network of branches in northern France (28), Belgium (15) and the Netherlands (2), more than one million tonnes of material are processed every year.
