The operator of the new Deposit Return Scheme for plastic drinks bottles and cans is to move swiftly to find alternative ways of getting people to return empties after the majority of small retailers opted out of taking back containers.
Ciaran Foley, chief executive of operating company Re-turn, insisted he was still happy with the number of outlets ready to take part when the scheme goes live on Thursday.
